I was looking to build a site "facebook" style and was thinking of using precoded software like abledating 2.4 (for examle)

my issue is that I am not a web programmer. I am a freelance graphic artist but image design is about as far as i go. also, the site would not be for dating, more like networking over current issues. i had been quoted prices from 7 to 15 thousand by web designers and i don't have any where near that. what would you reckamend? I see these SNS all over the net so it can't be that expensive to build one, or can it? do you know of a network or forum where i could get in contact with programmers who would be willing to go in as a partner in ownership if i fit the the bill of cost or would i be better off buying the softwear and going in to it that way?
